Deviant by Callie Hart

After seeing so much hype over Quicksilver, I wanted to try something else by the same author because I knew it’d be some time before I could give that book a go. That said, I picked up Deviant by Callie Hart and it was just not for me. I love dark romance. I’m pretty good with a lot. But this just didn’t do it for me.

The C*ck Down the Block by Amy Award

So, I’ve seen The C*ck Down the Block by Amy Award for some time on TikTok and just around goodreads, etc. Every time I thought man, what a cheeky cover and title, too bad I don’t care for football. Honestly, I don’t know why I let that hold me back. This was such a fun and cute read that definitely has me wanting to continue with the Cocky Kingmans series!

The Deep by Nick Cutter

Reading The Deep by Nick Cutter has cemented Cutter as my favorite, go-to horror author. This was so deeply unsettling and full of tension, it literally had me hiding in my hair at work and jumping when coworkers snuck up on me or the phone rang. There are so many different phases to the horror which is what made this so amazing. Each strand was carefully woven into the other so every sense was bombarded until you’re frozen in dread.

Devils Kill Devils by Johnny Compton

Devils Kill Devils by Johnny Compton was one of the horror books I was most looking forward to this year. I thought this would be spooky, heavy, horrorful. Instead, I was left disappointed and bored. I wonder if this might just be because publishers and book vendors tend to lump everything as a horror, especially as we get closer to Halloween because this didn’t feel like a horror. This felt more like a paranormal gothic thriller. Or maybe horror light.

Between Dragons and their Wrath by Devin Madson

Between Dragons and their Wrath by Devin Madson is absolutely a book I would recommend to fantasy readers that prefer intrigue and worldbuilding with strong characters. The action is slow to build, but given this is the first book in a series, it is to be expected and still delivers an exciting story. Additionally, though I didn’t touch upon it earlier, there are queer characters which made me love this story even more! It was so good to see a spectrum of characters from caste to color to sexual identity. I absolutely cannot wait for the next book to come out!

The Marriage Hex by Sarah Blue

Would I recommend The Marriage Hex by Sarah Blue? Yeah, I think I would if you’re looking for a cute and quick paranormal romance. It isn’t going to revolutionize the genre, but it is going to leave you feeling warm and fuzzy. If you liked Bride, and want more like that, you’ll love this!

Hot Blooded by Heather Guerre

I have no idea how I found Hot Blooded by Heather Guerre. I’m betting I was probably just searching through different recs on either storygraph, goodreads, or amazon and thought yes, I would like an older FMC/vampire romance. I am honestly SO happy I picked this up! This book itself was great, and it made me pick up a few others by the same author.
