A vicious demonic plot. A curse decades in the making. An epic love that burns hotter than the very fires of hell…
Charlotte...

All Charley’s nightmares are real.
Demons. Dark witches. Her murderous uncle.
With her soul bound to an ancient demon lord and her sister taken captive by a monster, hope is in short supply.
But Charley will not go down without a fight. Not when it comes to her sister, and not when it comes to the vampire king who’s claimed her heart.
Even if it means siding with a brutal enemy from her past.
Even if it means making a choice that will alter the course of her life… for eternity.

Dorian....

Dorian never wanted his father’s crown or the secrets that came with it.
He never wanted to fall in love with the seductive stranger he’d ravaged in a closet, either.
But fate had other plans.
Now, with the enemies of House Redthorne lurking in every shadow, demons threatening to destroy his city, and an ancient lord of hell laying claim on the woman who’s set Dorian’s very soul on fire, the vampire king has only one mission:
Burn. Them. All.
Even if it means betraying his father’s memory.
Even if it means making the darkest sacrifice of his immortal life...

review

Dark Obsession by Sarah Piper brings to a conclusion the trilogy that is Dorian and Charlotte’s romance. This might be the only trilogy where it has stayed consistently good. I was worried that things would fizzle for this third book, but it continued to give everything the series is known for. There was spice, angst, and violence!

We start to see the mending between Dorian and Gabriel, just in time for Gabriel to start his trilogy at the conclusion. This is one of the things I loved most about this book – the brotherly relationships we get. Where the focus was obviously on building up the relationship with Dorian and Charlotte for the first two books, now that they’ve pretty much solidified as a couple, part of the focus shifts to Dorian and his siblings. We see just how skewed Dorian’s POV is because he only knows what he knows and once the truth starts coming out, everything changes – the dynamics between siblings. What was especially well done and has stuck with me even now, months after finishing this book, is Dorian’s relationship with Malcolm. There’s no wrapping that up in a pretty little bow. We don’t know what’s truth and what’s perception. While some readers may hate this, I loved this because it added a slight element of realism in an otherwise wildly unrealistic (obviously) series.

Dorian and Charley’s relationship deepens as they finally begin to fully trust and understand each other. Despite arguments, they love and trust one another not to jump to conclusions and instead respect the others’ decisions. It is honestly refreshing to see that growth, especially considering it was one of the biggest reasons for the drama surrounding their breakup at the end of book 1.

Apart from the relationships, we continue getting more worldbuilding which works to hopefully set the next trilogy up in the Vampire Royals of New York series. We get more demon information and learn more about their place in this paranormal world. Dorian’s position is made clearer. It’s just so good because it isn’t simply smut and romance (which don’t get me wrong, I love), but also has substance in its paranormal plot.

Honestly, you don’t need me to tell you whether to pick up Dark Obsession by Sarah Piper or not. This is the third book in the series and the conclusion to Dorian and Charlotte’s story. Absolutely pick this up! And if you have as many feelings and opinions about it as I do, come talk to me about it and then lets pick up the next in the series!
