Good Elf Gone Wrong by Alina Jacobs

“Good Elf Gone Wrong” by Alina Jacobs mashes up romance genres in a surprising but disjointed manner. For three quarters of the book, Gracie endures cruel treatment from Hudson, her hired boyfriend. The ill-conceived rom-com transforms into a bully romance, leaving the reader confused. Suddenly, the final quarter takes a romantic turn, as Hudson grows a conscience and Gracie finds a backbone. This abrupt shift redeems the story slightly, but overall, it lacks consistency and logic.

Asher Black by Parker S Huntington

Asher Black is a good slow burn mafia romance with a leading male that is actually caring from start to finish. A definite recommend for anyone looking for an easy read with sex, romance, angst, yearning, and action.

The London Séance Society by Sarah Penner

Would I recommend The London Séance Society by Sarah Penner? Sure! It wasn’t amazing, but it wasn’t horrible. It was a good filler book to read. A palate cleanser book to read between heavier novels or series.

Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness

Would I recommend this? Honestly, I think I would simply because 75% of the book was really good and really captivated my attention. There are good ideas and it was good foundation, even if Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness stumbled at the end.

What Moves the Dead by T. Kingfisher

Long and Short of it: Great writing, but ultimately just a basic retelling with a well-known impetus. I previously read The Hollow Places by T. Kingfisher which absolutely creeped me out. It was a great horror book. When I saw the cover for What Moves the Dead and that it was written by T. Kingfisher, […]

Our Wives Under the Sea by Julia Armfield

Long and Short of it: A lot of build just to be let down and confused. I wanted to read something that would scare me. Something that would sweep me up and make me read it nonstop because I would want to know what is happening and what will happen. Our Wives Under the Sea […]

Murder at Midnight by John Ukah

Cozy mysteries are such a guilty pleasure of mine. They’ve got the intrigue from harder, dramatic mysteries, while also keeping things relatively light and fluffy. Most of the cozy mysteries I’ve read have been by female authors, so when I was approached to review Murder at Midnight by John Ukah, I was super intrigued to […]

The Path Keeper by N. J. Simmonds

Any book that claims to be a mix of Game of Thrones, Twilight, and A Court of… in their presser, I’m going to be intrigued, as are I’m sure numerous other adult YA fantasy fans. While The Path Keeper by NJ Simmonds is a decent read that hooked me in enough to have me keep […]

A Reaper of Stone by Mark Gelineau, Joe King

Originally drawn to this because of the beautiful cover, I continually put of reading Reaper of Stone by Mark Gelineau and Joe King because I thought there is no way this can be as good as the cover. Finally, I decided I needed to just read it and see and I was completely wrong! This […]

When Darkness Falls by Chanda Stafford

Billed as a paranormal mystery, When Darkness Falls by Chanda Stafford is more a paranormal young adult novel with a light splash of mystery. That’s not to say it wasn’t enjoyable! This was a very light, breezy read that sometimes is just what you need. I know it’s what I needed after reading heavier and […]

City of Brass by S. A. Chakraborty

I have held onto The City of Brass by SA Chakraborty for almost a year after receiving an advanced copy from Book Expo of America. I knew I wanted to read it the moment I laid eyes on the gorgeous cover and then learning the book doesn’t follow the typical Eurocentric fantasy standard? I excitedly […]

This Is Not the End by Chandler Baker

If you’re looking for something super sci-fi and devious, this is not for you. More contemporary than anything else, This is Not the End by Chandler Baker is a very interesting YA book that I initially disliked but really ended up enjoying it by the end. The reasons for which will likely be made in […]

The Goblins of Bellwater by Molly Ringle

A beautiful cover, a story inspired by Rossetti’s Goblin Market, and set in the PNW, I was all about The Goblins of Bellwater by Molly Ringle. Yet, I don’t really know how I feel about it now that I’ve finished it, other than saying it’s a true and solid three star book. The story was […]

Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia, Margaret Stohl

Either I hyped myself up far too much, or I just didn’t get it for being out of intended target age range, but I could not fall for Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl. Though the premise was an interesting one, and the setting built it up to be part of one of […]

Wintersong by S. Jae-Jones

I can honestly say I don’t know how to feel about this, other than I feel strongly. Wintersong by S Jae Jones is beautiful, with grand, sweeping descriptions that envelope the reader in a faerie new world. But it is also not enough at times. There are characters you come to love and grieve for, […]
