The Hunting Moon by Susan Dennard

The Hunting Moon by Susan Dennard is a compelling sequel, exploring the protagonist Winnie’s physical and emotional journey, and her relationships. The book unfolds with a mix of slow-paced emotional introspection and fast-paced action. Its plot leaves the readers with more questions even as it reveals more about the world. Dennard’s portrayal of Winnie as a young, imperfect teenager, not all-knowing but growing, adds authenticity to the narrative. Highly recommended for those who enjoyed the first book in the series.

The Luminaries by Susan Dennard

Honestly, I started The Luminaries by Susan Dennard because I loved the cover, first and foremost. Then, I thought the whole Jay and Winnie thing might be fun based off the synopsis. It was more than fun. I devoured this book and cannot wait to get started on the sequel. Now, I want to preface […]

A Deadly Education by Naomi Novik

This was a great read that I’m upset I didn’t get to earlier! I did read A Deadly Education by Naomi Novik as an audiobook and golly Anisha Dadia is SUCH a great narrator. She gave so much emotion for each of the characters and with just the slightest change in tone or inflection, you knew who was speaking, you know their mood, you knew the situation. I think reading this as an audiobook really changed and elevated my experience.

The Path Keeper by N. J. Simmonds

Any book that claims to be a mix of Game of Thrones, Twilight, and A Court of… in their presser, I’m going to be intrigued, as are I’m sure numerous other adult YA fantasy fans. While The Path Keeper by NJ Simmonds is a decent read that hooked me in enough to have me keep […]

When Darkness Falls by Chanda Stafford

Billed as a paranormal mystery, When Darkness Falls by Chanda Stafford is more a paranormal young adult novel with a light splash of mystery. That’s not to say it wasn’t enjoyable! This was a very light, breezy read that sometimes is just what you need. I know it’s what I needed after reading heavier and […]

Bruja Born by Zoraida Córdova

Though I was initially hesitant on what Bruja Born by Zoraida Córdova could be out as I discovered that the narrative focus would change from first book in the series, Labyrinth Lost, where we followed bi/pansexual Alex and her story, to that of eldest sister Lula. Though I loved Lula in Labyrinth Lost, I wanted […]

Court of Vampires by Megan Linski

I feel as though I keep trying for vampire books and I keep getting disappointed. Maybe I should take a break? Court of Vampires by Megan Linski seemed like it would be a fun vampire/werewolf YA story. Maybe just a cheesy angsty romance. That is legitimately what I went into it expecting. And yet, I […]

Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia, Margaret Stohl

Either I hyped myself up far too much, or I just didn’t get it for being out of intended target age range, but I could not fall for Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl. Though the premise was an interesting one, and the setting built it up to be part of one of […]

Awakening by Tiera Rice

As an aficionado of vampire fiction, I was really excited to pick up Awakening: Bloodline by Tiera Rice. Beautiful cover, intriguing synopsis, destiny and romance, all the markings of a great YA paranormal book! But, they all fell a little flat for me. I was disappointed and left expecting and wanting more. Now, as I’m […]

High Tide at Harvest Moon by Taryn Blackthorne

I’m a sucker for shifters and shifter romance. So when I was approached to review High Tide at Harvest Moon by Taryn Blackthorne, I was excited! Fictional romance between characters that seem to hate each other really is a favorite trope of mine, so to see Lexi fight her attraction to Kerr was fantastic! The […]

Rise by Luis Almonte

OMG WHAT A STORY! So, I was beyond confused at the start, not really caring for prologues that start at the end of the book. I was really worried that I had made a mistake picking up Rise by Luis Almonte. Then, the story switched to what happened before the prologue and just yessss! Read […]

Uprising by Jessica Therrien

The second book in the Children of the Gods series, Uprising by Jessica Therrien keeps up the action from the first book. Elyse, now on the run with William and accepting her role as “the chosen one,” learns to fight and strategize war plans. The war begins to brew and pieces snap into place. The pacing is great. We […]

Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco

Apart from the stunning cover, Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco simply caught my attention for two reasons: Jack the Ripper, and the idea of having a well-to-do girl go about trying to solve the murders through rational thought and science, rather than being the bumbling dumb foil had me super intrigued. Though she […]

The Watcher by Lisa Voisin

I want to start by thanking author Lisa Voisin for sending me a copy of The Watcher! The synopsis was so intriguing, I needed to read this book! I really, really wanted to love it, looking for a juicy new YA angels series to get into. Sadly, it did not live up to my expectations […]

Suspicion by Alexandra Monir

Okay, so I’ll admit the main reason I gravitated towards Suspicion, by Alexandra Monir, was the absolutely gorgeous cover. But, a cover alone isn’t enough to warrant a read — the synopsis itself is what sealed the deal. Tales of class intrigue are always fun, then add to that the unexpected inclusion of the paranormal, […]
