Now, I don’t remember how I came across Wicked Gods by Michelle Hercules. It could’ve been through TikTok or just a random recommendation. Whatever it was, I really wanted to give it a chance because I really enjoyed what I’ve read of the author’s other series, Blueblood Vampires. Wow, I think I might’ve just become a Michelle Hercules fan girl. Devoured Wicked Gods and immediately picked up the rest of the series.
Unlike so many other FMC that we get in romances, especially dark romances, Daisy feels fleshed out. She has a backstory, she has purpose and reasons and interests. She has connections outside of romances. Daisy, despite being ‘powerless’, stands up for herself and doesn’t back down. She reacts appropriately when things happen to her that are fucked up.
And boy do things get fucked up thanks to the Magnificent Four – well, mostly 2 of the four. Rufio, brash, angry, and hedonistic looks to punish Daisy from the second he sees her. His best friend Phoenix, lust manifested who wants to push the boundaries. There is so much to learn about Phoenix that I cannot other than to say, I have a sinking feeling about what is going on with him. To round out what I’m assuming will become the harem are Morpheus, an interesting boy with dark, shadowy powers and secrets who distrusts Daisy immediately. And finally, the light of my life, Bryce, Rufio’s older brother and the most powerful of the four. I LOVE him and if this were to ever stop being a reverse harem, I would NEED Daisy to be with Bryce.
Despite some intense sex scenes, there is actual plot to the book, which makes sense since it is a series. Overarching, the conflict between Norms (folks with no powers), Fringe (folks with very little power), and Idols (folks with LOTS of power). Threaded into this, the role Daisy seems to have which is kept secret from herself, the Four, and the reader. This secret and wanting to figure out what is happening had me reading through this just as fast as the romance.
Wicked Gods by Michelle Hercules is a great intro to what I hope will be an amazing series. Great start to romance, and full of actual plot with interesting characters. Absolutely recommend!
