She wants three things. He isn’t one of them...
Dumped by her cheating ex, fired from her dream job, and about to lose her flat: Clementine Monroe is not having a good day. So when her sisters get her drunk and suggest reviving a childhood ritual called the Breakup Spell, she doesn’t see the harm in it.
But now Clemmie has accidentally ruined a funeral, had her first one-night stand, and she’s stuck with a new job she definitely doesn’t want—spending six weeks alone with the gorgeous and very-off-limits rock star, Theo Eliott.
He’s the most famous man on the planet. Her life’s a disaster. As their summer together turns into its own kind of magic, is Clemmie cursed to repeat the mistakes of her past—or will her future see all her wishes come true?

review

I normally steer clear of rockstar romances because it can end up being a little cringey, or full of cheating. But, I really wanted to read the second in the Theo and Cynthia series, so I figured I needed to start with book one. Under Your Spell by Laura Wood was so absolutely cute! This was such a breath of fresh air and a much needed break from the dark romances I’ve been devouring.

I was hooked from the very beginning, when we find out that FMC Clemmie’s cat was STOLEN BY HER CHEATING EX! Like??? Excuse me?? I would be throwing down if someone tried to take my fur babies from me. It really just went to show how run down and beaten she is by that relationship. Frankly, but every male relationship she’s ever had. From her father, to her lovers, she has been simply used or cast aside. So, when she gets thrown with babysitting Theo, who should practically be every single red flag she’s experienced in the past, I knew this was going to be good.

But where I thought this was going to be explosive and angsty, this was actually so wildly and incredibly sweet. Theo is the opposite, pretty much, of every guy Clemmie has ever known. He is so thoughtful and loving and earnest. Watching their chemistry grow, then tension bubble over, just left me feeling so happy and fluttery. Then, of course, there is a third act break-up that we get hints for pretty early on. I think this little mini break really was the reason for that one star knocked off. Like, it seems like a pretty big thing to not realize would happen, to not account for it and make a plan to deal with it. Especially on Theo’s end considering he’s mentioned how he shies away from relationships because of the media. That said, I did like how it eventually got wrapped up and that her father helped, even though it definitely doesn’t make up for anything.

I think if you’re looking for something really cute (but still steamy,) you’ll really enjoy Under Your Spell by Laura Wood. It is sweet with two really great MCs that have great chemistry. This makes for a great palette cleanser and a good mood booster.
